Artist Bio
Holly Lou Jones’s work seeks to explore bodily tension through sculptural forms taken from her body or based on her own bodily experience. Skin is stretched to just before ripping point, resembling that of a laboratory experiment; a tight, taut specimen within a dissection tray. By combining the grotesque, the organic, the industrial, the fragile and the abject through seemingly barbaric actions, her work seeks to open conversations surrounding queerness, femininity, disability, rage and resilience.
Blurring the lines between masculine and feminine; hard and soft; solid and fragile; constrained and slack; healthy and sick - her work acts as a representation of the stubborn resilience of womanhood and the sheer endurance of the human form. A celebration of the grotesque beauty of the human body and all that comes along with it.
